The largest victor of American sacrafice and war in the middle east is Iran. An error the U.S. made is that we always try to make friends there, but they end up becoming enemies. The U.S. ignored the history of the region, in regard to the schism of the Shiite and Sunni.

Augustus Norton states that Iran has been the greatest geopolitical victor of American sacrifice and war.The bush administration's reluctance to negotiate a quick end to the fighting in last summer's war between Israel and Hezbollah, a shiite militia,is one error that caused iran to be a victor of sacrifice and war.Because Hezbollah's military ended up with a burnished reputation that is one of the influences on iran.another error made by u.s was that the u.s paid little attention to the history of the sunnis and the shiites.the government ended up working against the history of the sectarian division of iran. the new policy should have been besed on history instead it was based on nothing.

I think I got it finally! Iran is the big winner in this because they are now stronger and more powerful and the U.S. helped them so that Sadam could be defeated.

The largest victor of American sacrifice and war would be Iran. After Saddam was overthrown, Iran, who was their biggest enemy, made out with more confidence and were strenghthened. The United States on the other hand, didn't make out very good. The U.S. wasn't being realistic to begin with, or so says the author of this piece. The Americas were trying to put a Shiite government in Iraq when many of the American "friends"[as Cheney describes them]are led by a Sunni government. Augustus Norton, who is a Middle East historian, says that he doesn't think this is a very stable solution. Ayman Shaheen thinks that our government is making a huge mistake by trying to put the Shiites in power, and that we're going to have to "pay a big price." Yet we, in the U.S. don't appreciate the way they run things, as Bush overtly stated in his State of Union address.
