answer: Sadaam Hussein was considered an ally to the United States during the 1980's because of Iran. The United States was at odds with Iran and its leader the Ayatollah Khomeini and needed to get into Iraq, the neighbor of Iran, to be near the border of Iran and Iraq was at odds with Iran too so the United States and Iraq were on the same side during the 1980's both against Iran.

Saddam Hussain was considered an ally to the untied states in the 1980's because it looked like he was trying to get oil for everyone from the persians but it was only for himself. Also, what he did was divide people so there would not be as much fighting but there was still a lot.

Saddam Hussein was considered an ally to the United States because he aggressively ordered an invasion on Iran and we were in a small fight against Iran because they held U.S. diplomats hostages for a whole year; so it was a good thing that Saddam invaded.

I think that Sadaam Hussein was considered an ally to the United States in the 1980s because the revolution in Iran, which brought religious fanatics to power, started to spread in the middle-east to Liban, and the new religious government in Iran had become very anti-U.S., so they even created a terrorist organization, called Hezbollah, which was against the United States' interests and against Israel. Hussein was seen as the leader who could stop the spread of Ayatollah Khomeini's ideas. Hussein started the war with Iran and the U.S. was on his side. The war which had lasted for such a long time didn't topple the new Iranian religious government. The war ended without any solutions. Neither side had won. Iran is still sponsoring terrorist organizations in Liban and is still very anti-U.S. and anti-Israeli.

I am not sure if you received my first blog, so here it is in shorter form: Sadaam Hussein was considered an ally of the U.S. because in Iran, after the revolution, Ayatollah Khomeini came to power, who was a very religious fanatic and against the U.S. and Israel. Hussein was seen as the person who could help the U.S. stop spreading Iranian influence in that area.

Saddam Hussein ordered an invasion on Iran. Then he gave Americans the oil they wanted and even shook hands with our former president Ronald Reagan on December 20, 1983. Saddam seized the Iranian oil fields, which is where he got the oil he wanted.
