By James Scaramuzzino
Todays issue was "In response to a slow news week, certain highbrow newspapers have stirred up the debate over voluntary vs compulsory voting."
So i chose the one first chose which gave my people the freedom to choose if they wanted to vote or not.

My issue was, Should Democracy be Compulsory?

This was my response.
"Compulsory voting makes about as much as sense as having the death penalty for attempted suicide," says civil rights activist Klaus Washington. "You can't force people to be free! You can only give them the choice. Besides, if all those derelicts who can't be bothered to get off their ass once every few years voted, who would they elect? I shudder to think."

My issue was of democracy had to be compulsory, I said that no, it shouldn't be, but everyone should vote if they can.

My issue was compulsory voting. I decided with the second idea. It makes a lo of sense because there are certain groups that vote more often and some that barely vote at all. When this happens, you don't get a legitimate feeling for the entire government instead you just get the ideas of certain voters. When you make voting compulsory, you get everyones opinion whether or not they want to give it.

Cheap, foreign-made cars are becoming increasingly popular, causing concern in cantoropolis's automobile manufacturing industry.

Unless this government does something, cantoropolis won't have an auto industry for much longer," says auto industry union boss Aaron Trax, in a rare public appearance alongside management. "These foreign companies employ people for a few dead babys's a day. The only way to level the playing field is to raise tariffs. The government would make more money, too, so it's win-win."

My issue is:"Should Democracy Be Compulsory?" For my position I choose this statement:"It's not contradictory at all," argues political commentator Al O'Bannon. "The fact is, if not everyone votes, the outcome isn't truly representative. Some groups--like elderly gun nuts--vote more often than others. That's why we always end up with such terrible politicians."

My issue was "Should voting be compulsary?" and I responded "no" and agreed with the first answer because people shouldn't be forced to vote. If they really don't care who wins enough that they don't vote then there vote would be meaningless because they would just basically pick at random.

My issue was: As crime rates rise, some in the community are calling for increased policing.

I chose to get more police because I wouldn't want people to be in danger. There should be no one getting hurt. I think that the bad people deffinatly need to be caught and by having more police on duty, the population of those people will be less. By having more police no one will get away with anything. There will be more protection also.

In the debate i acceped this position, choice 1: "Just the other day, I got mugged in the broad daylight!" says ruffian Jazz O'Bannon. "And the ironic thing is I had just stuck up this other guy. When muggers are getting mugged, even I have to admit that crime has gotten out of control. We do need more police."

My issue was whether or not democracy should be compulsory. The site said: In response to a slow news week, certain highbrow newspapers have stirred up the debate over voluntary vs compulsory voting.

I agree with the statement that said "Compulsory voting makes about as much as sense as having the death penalty for attempted suicide," says civil rights activist Melbourne Rifkin. "You can't force people to be free! You can only give them the choice. Besides, if all those derelicts who can't be bothered to get off their ass once every few years voted, who would they elect? I shudder to think."

I agree with this because forcing people to vote is not right. People should have the choice to do what they want. If you force someone to vote and they really don't want to, they can purposely make bad decisions. It makes no sense to have people do something that they are against. Those who vote are involved in the government and actually care what happens to it. The others don't really have an opinion about it. It should be kept that way.

My country received the following issue: Should democracy be compulsory? In other words, if voting should be compulsory. I believe that voting should not be compulsory. If people are unsure of who to vote for, or if they think everyone is corrupt, they shouldn't be forced to vote for someone they think is unfit to partake in the government. Also, if you have a lazy couch-potato who doesn't really care about the government, he wouldn't really care about the outcome, and may on purposely vote for an inadequate politician. If voting were made compulsory, we'd have many more bad politicians in our government than we do already. Therefore, I did not make voting compulsory in my nation.

I had the issue about compulsary voting or what ever that was, making people vote. I really thought that making people vote made as much sense as the death penalty for attempted suicide. Maybe I was wrong, but that's how I handled it =)

My issue was: Should Democracy Be Compulsory? In this case meaning, should my people have the choice to vote, be forced to vote, or not be able to vote at all. I responded by choosing my country to have some freedom and have the right to choose to vote. I thought that it would be better to be more open minded in my country rather than being too forceful and end in coruption. Furthermore, voting by choice helps my people to decide and show their opinions on matters from the state and so forth.

my issue was whether Democracy should Be Compulsory. i chose the second option. I eliminated the third option because it was saying that we should not vote at all and just do the sensible thing but that means that my country is not a democracy any more. the first option was saying that everyone should vote no mater what . the second one said that more people vote more than other people that is why some terrible politicians get in office. I agree with this one because if you want a change you got to vote or you are not going to get the change. However I can't make you vote.

The Question:
Should Democracy Be Compulsory?

My answer to the quesion was:
"Compulsory voting makes about as much as sense as having the death penalty for attempted suicide," says civil rights activist Billy-Bob Barry. "You can't force people to be free! You can only give them the choice. Besides, if all those derelicts who can't be bothered to get off their ass once every few years voted, who would they elect? I shudder to think."

My issue that I had to decide upon in NationStates was:

"Should Democracy be Compulsory?"

I chose the first response, which read:

"Compulsory voting makes about as much as sense as having the death penalty for attempted suicide," says civil rights activist Anne-Marie O'Bannon. "You can't force people to be free! You can only give them the choice. Besides, if all those derelicts who can't be bothered to get off their ass once every few years voted, who would they elect? I shudder to think."

I chose this because people may have a good reason they don't want to vote and it is their right to choose, but it was a tough decision.

Hello, Mr. Norton. My issue of the first day (like it always is for the first day) was "Should Democracy be Compulsory?" I chose that voting should be compulsory for a few reasons. First, if only half the population of a country votes, then the outcome is not truly what the people want. If all people vote, then all people have a say in the election of officials. Furthermore, if specific special interest groups get up and vote while other groups don't, then the scale will be tipped in favor of the supporter of that special interest group. For these, and other reasons, voting should be cumpulsory.

I made the decision I made becuase if we force people to vote they might just pick the top one becuase its first and that guy could be pycho of something. And if lazy people were forced to vote becuase they problably wouldn't even bother. Finally I think I would make the laws becuase I think I know the best for the country noboby knows the country better than me. After all I founded the country.

Hey Mr. N,
My NationState for school is only a day old. Thomastia, therefore has only had one issue-should voting be compulsory? I voted no, for in a true democracy, which i believe in, the citizens have a choice on what action to take. In voting, one of those actions is not to vote. I feel that a "mandatory democracy" wouldn't be a democracy at all. I'll keep you posted as more issues come.

By the way, my country is rated a NYT democracy.

A group of emergency room doctors has petitioned the government to introduce mandatory organ donations.

"You keep your damn hands off my organs!" says alarmed hospital patient Buy Shiomi. "They are my organs, and I'll do with them what I like. The government has no right to my body."

I agreed with this possition because I think it's okay to take dieing people's organs, but as long as they agree to this. I think it should be there choice weather other can use their organs or not.

"It's not as crazy as it sounds," says Dr. Larry O'Bannon. "Every day, people die because we don't have the organs to save them. Well, that and widespread under-funding of the health system. But the point is, if the government allowed us to take organs from dead people, we could save hundreds of lives a year. And come on, it's not like dead people need them."

- I agree with this. When I'm older and I get my license I am going to be an organ doner. If people are dead, they no longer have a use for them. If there are people in need of their organs they should be able to get surgery used with it.

Just Hills Decides:
Ligers On The Dinner Table?

The Issue
In a bid to provide a new revenue stream for Just Hills's Beef-Based Agriculture industry, it has been suggested that ligers could be added to the menu.

The Debate
"The fact is, the liger population is out of control," says Beef-Based Agriculture spokesperson Jazz McAlpin. "We have to do something about them anyway, so why not market them as tasty snacks? We could have liger kebabs, liger pies, liger-on-a-sticks--the possibilities are endless! Let's not pass up this golden opportunity to provide a feast, if you will, for our economy."
i did not agree on this one because the liger is my nation's national animal so no killing the animal

"I agree that something needs to be done about liger over-population," says random passer-by Elizabeth Longbottom, "but eating them? That's kind of gross. Let's just shoot the ones we have to and shovel their bodies into ditches like normal."
i did not agree on this one because again the liger is my nation and killing animals for fun is not right

"I am shocked and appalled!" declared SPCA President Charles Rubin. "If anyone needs to be culled, it's us humans. The ligers were here first, remember? We need to take this as a sign to get our industry--agriculture in particular--to back off. The liger is part of what makes Just Hills a great nation!"
i agreeded on this one because the liger will not be killed yeah

The Issue
The Department of Defense has put its case for a substantial increase in funding for the coming financial year.

The Debate
"These are turbulent times we live in," says Defense Chief Jean-Paul Longbottom. "Turbulent and dangerous. And the only sensible response to that, of course, is to build a lot more weapons. Unless we get the funding we need, I can't promise that we'll be able to defend Just Hills's sovereign borders from rogue nations and foreign powers. Or those leaky boatloads of refugees, for that matter."

"NO MORE BOMBS," chant the protestors outside Parliament House, in a repetitious and increasingly annoying appeal. Spokesperson Max Longbottom, speaking through a feedback-afflicted microphone, says, "Just Hills needs fewer weapons, not more! Make the world a safer place! Disarm now!"
